FAQ

Document Destruction/Shredding. eRecycling. Hard Drive Shredding.

Shredding confidential documents is a lot more than just common sense and good business. With more than 40 state and federal information destruction laws currently on the books, securely destroying confidential information is also the law!

Here are the four most important information security laws:

FACTA

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act (FACTA) requires that any individual or business that maintains personal consumer information must take reasonable care to protect against unauthorized access to this information, and they must also destroy personal consumer information before it is discarded. For more information about FACTA click here.

HIPAA

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) sets national standards for the protection of personal health information. For more information about HIPAA click here.

GLB

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act requires that all financial institutions protect the confidential information of their clients. For more information about GLB click here.

Red Flags Rule

The Red Flags Rule was created by the Federal Trade Commission and the National Credit Union Administration to help prevent identity theft. For more information about the Red Flags Rule click here.

How does the shredding service work?

After the consultation review and we establish the style of bin and the type of service needed we simply deliver the bins or consoles to your location. Next we schedule a routine pickup or one time purge pickup of the containers. Our service driver arrives onsite on a pre-determined date; our driver will bring new containers into your facility, locate the contact person at your office and service the filled containers. Next the filled containers are loaded onto our secured vehicle; the vehicle is tracked by a live GPS system so we know where the truck and material are at all times. The driver arrives back at the R3 shredding location and unloads the truck with additional R3 employees. The next step is shredding, once the material is shredded a certificate of destruction is emailed to the customer confirming the job is completed. Your documents are comingled with other customers to ensure greater security before the bailing process.

Why do we not offer on-site shredding at this time?

R3 is the business services division of New Horizons Supported Services a 501(c) 3 charitable organization registered in the state of Maryland. NHSSI has been helping to employ adults with disabilities for over 40 years. If we offer on-site destruction it will take away the ability for some employees the opportunity for work. With this offsite shredding business model we still keep security to a very high standard and are able to offer employment opportunities for our entire team.

Why start a shred-all policy?
